G-D Blesses this coming month

Every month, on the Shabbat preceding the New Moon (Rosh Chodesh), a special prayer is said in Shul announcing the coming month. Such a Shabbat is known as Shabbat Mevarchim (the Shabbat where we bless the coming month). On the Shabbat preceding Rosh HaShannah (which also precedes a New Moon) we make no such declaration or prayer. The Ba’al Shem Tov teaches that we don’t bless the New Moon of Tishrei, because G‑d Himself blesses Tishrei - and with the power G‑d invests in the month of Tishrei, we have the ability to bless the other 11 months of the year. For this reason, the Chabad custom, which is to say the entire Book of Psalms on the morning of Shabbat Mevarchim’s throughout the year, applies this month as well.
